Structure of Government:
Executive: The President of the Republic is both Chief of State and Head of Government. The President is elected by absolute majority popular vote for a 5-year term (eligible for a second term only). The Vice President and members of the Government are appointed by the President.
Legislative: Unicameral National Assembly. Members are elected by simple majority vote to serve a 5-year term.
Judicial: The Supreme Court and the High Court are the highest courts.
Foreign policy: Malawi is a member of UNAMID, UNCTAD, UNESCO, UNIDO,UNOCI, WTO, UPU,WCO, WFTU, WHO, WIPOI, UNWTO, IMF, ILO, IOM
GDP: 3,705 billion USD (IMF est. 2013)
Main economic resources: tobacco, tea, sugar, sawmill products, cement etc
Major Trading Partners: Germany, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, India, China.
